National Bike Challenge

BIKE! is proud to coordinate the Local Challenge for Houghton and Keweenaw Counties in the National Bike Challenge again for 2015. Join us as we log miles to challenge ourselves, our communities, our friends, and our colleagues to do something that's good for us and the environment.
2015 ResultsOur local challenge finished in the top spot nationally this year! Sincere thanks to all the dedicated riders, as well as everyone in BIKE! and others who helped get the word out. Read more in our news release.
2015 GoalsIn 2014, BIKE! saw 120 riders sign up for the Challenge, logging a total of nearly 77,000 miles. This put our Local Challenge in the #4 spot nationally at the end of the Challenge!
This year, we're setting goals to reach 200 registered riders and log a total of 100,000 miles. With persistence, we could reach the #1 spot for Local Challenges nationally. Group RidesJune 1 Ride
Eighteen riders joined us for a fascinating geoheritage tour of Calumet. Check out photos from the ride. Thanks to Cross Country Sports and Michigan House Cafe for sponsorship, and congratulations to our prize winners, Patrick and Wendy! July 1 Ride We had a small but fun group for a nice tour of Houghton and Hancock bike infrastructure. Thanks to Rhythm Bike & Board for sponsoring this month's ride, and to Cross Country Sports for continuing support through the entire challenge. August 1 Ride Our August ride fell on a Saturday, so we headed up to Keweenaw County for a longer ride. Thanks for making the trek for this great ride! September 1 Ride We had a great time rolling out to Lake Linden and back, with a stop for food, drinks, and great conversation at The Loading Zone. Logging miles and having fun! September 30 Ride This was a fun ride to some of the lesser-known historical spots around Calumet and Laurium, including a stop at Albion Station. Shute's Saloon hosted post-ride festivites.
